What kind of person always needs to throw people a rubik's cube in conversation?

I've got a part-time friend that always has to grey things that are black or white, always play devil's advocate at inappropriate times, along with pointing out 6 degrees of separation between almost anything. I usually like hanging with him, but I find these rubik's cube tendencies very annoying, at least.

What kind of person is he?

I hear you, it is not only a problem in America (obviously). Nor is the groups that like to enforce their own views and opinions, through making it difficult for people with conflicting perspectives to draw attention to themselves, unique for the USA. Stupidity exist everywhere!
Reply:Obviously someone not like you! :) He sounds like a logical pragmatic kind of guy? Maybe you think he cannot 'see' the third way in his mind so has to say it out loud. He would possibly be good at forming complex plans and explainations whereas perhaps you could give a more overall 'bigger picture' which covers all ground by a more 'all encompassing' way. :)
